Review: Enough to Make You Blush: Exploring Erotic Humiliation

#s:kink #s:tbr #s:writing #t:review | Enough To Make You Blush (the Updated Edition--I haven't read the original) is a self-published work by Princess Kali, who is described in the back cover copy as a "former Dominatrix and world-renowned Humiliatrix." I don't believe you can buy physical copies in brick-and-mortar bookstores besides maybe some sex/kink shops; I ordered a copy via her Etsy store, which is a charmingly strange way to buy a book.

Useful for writing, probably! Per R:

The most interesting part of the book is the chapter "Why Do People Enjoy Humiliation?". Princess Kali's experience as a pro domme specializing in humiliation becomes very apparent, as she's put a lot of thought into the hows and whys of it all.

If a character breaks a leg at the start of a story. It is not enough for them to limp occasionally. The pain becomes part of the filter of the story. It becomes not just fact to document here or there. There will be blood. Pain that is sharp, pain that is deep, throbbing, ever running like a river. They will make a familiar move because they cannot help it and find themselves brought up to the sheer cliff face of pain. They will slowly, perhaps, have to remap and reinscribe the dimensions of their circumstance and their world.

On the Many Different Engines That Power a Short Story

Slang covers many areas, but there are certain major themes which have dominated the vocabulary for over 500 years. To sum them up as sex, drugs and, in its widest sense, rock ‘n’ roll wouldn’t be so far from the truth. Plus crime, drunkenness, insults, racism and a number of other of our less savoury but quite inescapable activities.
